That’s   pretty much the nitty gritty of engineering.   Make it stronger and it won’t fly or fly very far or it will fall in the river or just cost way too much.  Make it light  and the engines fall out.  Make it strong again…. and nobody can afford it.  And on and on.  Just about any great building, bridge, or dam  is triumph of genius.  Or a disaster waiting to happen.
