Marvin, "End Fed" pretty much locks you into the EFHW arena. Halfwave wire oriented at about 45 degrees with the feed point at the ground. Easily made (ARRL kit for 40) and deployed. In the traditional sense, a "half sloper" was typically a 1/4 wl wire fed against a 1/4 wl tower, with variations of that being quite prevalent, with varying results ranging from great to not worth a s%&*.....but most being quite finicky to get working properly, with minimal advantages attained. . Those designs, with comments as just stated, can be found in the ARRL Antenna Handbook, going back to last century or check out ON4UN's "Low Band DX'ing" comments re: half slopers and sloping dipoles. Within the last 10 years the low cost, easy up, multi-band EFHW popularity has taken hold and can be deployed as whatever you wish it to be....horizontal, L, vertical, sloper, zig-zag, etc. GL and 73...W5RH On Wed, Aug 21, 2024 at 7:41?AM mark janzer via BVARC > wrote: Also, check out: https://www.earchi.org/92011endfedfiles/Endfed6_40.pdf On Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 07:23:20 AM CDT, David Holden via BVARC > wrote: If you are trying to build an end feed half wave (EFHW) antenna, the length is in the name. A half wave at 40m is ~66 feet. Start with 67 feet and fold back the end until you get a good SWR. You need a 49:1 transformer on one end to get the impedance down to 50 ohm and to connect your coax. Mine is resonant at 10 through 40m. If you want to connect both antennas to one radio you should use a duplexer? that way, the rf knows where to go. I belive that most of those kind of radios are desined to be used with one antenna for both 2m and 70cm, which is what the duplexer makes the pair of beams appear as. I would recommend, if you don't have a dual-band that can listen to the down while transmitting on the up, to use two seperate radios for the up and the down, that way you can montior your signal into the satellite. Dear Sirs/Madam, I trust this correspondence finds you well. I am writing to express our sincere appreciation for the support extended to our scouting activities in the past. Your valuable assistance has significantly contributed to the development of the boys and girls in scouting, particularly through the use of your amateur radio for our annual Jamboree On The Air Scouting event. JOTA-JOTI is the world?s largest digital and radio Scout events, promoting friendship and global citizenship As we make preparations to host Cub Scouts packs in our troop this year, we anticipate requiring your support once again. We are gearing up for our participation in the world's largest radio Scouting event, Jamboree on the Air, which facilitates our Scouts' global connectivity using amateur radio to communicate. Additional information about this event can be found at https://www.jotajoti.info/. The event will offer our scouts and visitors an educational experience in radio technology, encompassing activities such as building a radio receiver, understanding radio waves and their propagation, gaining insights into Amateur Radio operations, and fulfilling their merit badge requirements. Furthermore, the event will enable our Scouts to engage in global communication with other scouts around the world through your Amateur Radio Station. We kindly seek your support and assistance in ensuring the success of this event, which will undoubtedly create enduring memories for the young scouts. We would greatly appreciate your confirmation of your station's participation in this event, and we kindly request that you specify your decision in a prompt manner. For further details about Jamboree on the Air, please visit https://www.jotajoti.info/. Should you have any inquiries or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me via the email address below. I eagerly await your positive response. Re: Requesting Permission For a Field Trip To Your Amateur Radio Station Respected Sir/Madam, I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter with a humble request to allow our scout troops (1993-Girls and 993-Boys) to visit your Amateur Radio Station. We are looking at a Saturday, Sept 17 or 24, 2022 (depending on your availability). Time: Anytime from 10 am to 4 pm My name is Philip Soneye, an assistant Scoutmaster with the above troops, We are a member of Boy Scouts of America and our troops are located at 2201 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX, 77077 We are preparing our troops to participate in the world?s largest radio Scouting event called Jamboree on the Air. This will allows our Scouts to connect to other Scouts from around the world. The event is open to Scouts around the world, enabling young people to connect and communicate with each other using the Internet and amateur radio. You can read more about this at https://www.jotajoti.info/ We thought it is important to prepare our boys/girls for this great event by arranging a small field trip to your Radio Station, to learn how to build a radio receiver, radio waves, their propagation, and how Amateur Radio works. We did some research online, we are inspired by your Amateur Radio Station, we thought our Scout troops will benefit more from this in checking off the requirement for their Citizenship in the World merit badge and International Spirit Award. We are sure your team would help them understand how the whole process works and give them a unique experience in preparing for Jamboree on the Air 2022. You may contact me at the email provided below. I shall be looking forward to your positive response. Thank you. Heads up that the contact in WA state reported being in TN so that datapoint is questionable: ? This is from 2 days ago, same gear & same output power, from Stephen F Austin state park: ? Of course, we can drown in the many variables for a comparison of the two activations (EFHW orientation, ground conditions, solar activity, etc.) but for right at one hour of activation I got 32 contacts in each park.
