All days and times in this forecast are in UTC (Zulu) time. More frequent, longer duration and more geographically widespread global 6 meter F2 propagation is likely through this weekend and continuing through next week and again during late November if solar flux values persist well above 200 for several days. 6 meter Trans-Equatorial F2 Propagation (TEP) is likely almost every day and long path propagation is possible from the southern tier of U.S. states during the next week. More northerly mid-latitude locations need a less reliable additional above-the-MUF mid-latitude F2 hop or an unreliable and infrequent additional sporadic-E hop. 6 meter sporadic-E propagation beyond 2200 km is extremely unlikely until December. www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/usaf-45-day-ap-and-f107cm-flux-forecast The 2300Z Penticton 10.7 cm observed solar flux index was 297 and is likely to remain about the same through at least Sunday. www.spaceweather.gc.ca/forecast-prevision/solar-solaire/solarflux/sx-4-en.php SILSO?s latest Estimated International Sunspot Number was 210 and is likely to remain about the same through at least Sunday. www.sidc.be/SILSO/DATA/EISN/EISNcurrent.png The visible solar disk has two growing large active regions, two growing medium active regions, one stable medium active region and two decaying medium active regions. There are 77 sunspots on the visible disk with a total sunspot area is 2320 micro solar hemispheres (about 14 times the surface area of the Earth). www.solarham.com/regions.htm Solar wind speed is likely to remain above 400 km/second through Sunday. Mostly quiet geomagnetic conditions are likely through at least late Sunday. www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/coronal-mass-ejections www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/coronal-holes Frequent M-class solar flares are expected to cause brief periods of minor blackouts of propagation paths crossing the sunlit side of the Earth through Sunday. There is a chance that X-class solar flares may cause an hour or more of radio blackouts of propagation paths crossing the sunlit side of the Earth through Sunday. www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/solar-flares-radio-blackouts The ongoing S1 minor solar energetic particle radiation storm and associated minor polar cap absorption is likely to end during Friday. www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/solar-radiation-storm 160 and 80 meter propagation from North America to VK/ZL and the South Pacific is likely to be normal through Sunday. 160 and 80 meter long distance propagation in the northern hemisphere is always mildly to moderately degraded through September by E region blanketing of low angle F2 propagation until at least several hours after sunset. 40 meter short path propagation from North America to the Middle East and south Asia after 2200Z is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. Short path propagation between North America and east Asia after about 0800Z is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. 30 meter propagation crossing the auroral ovals and polar regions is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. Daytime 30 meter long distance propagation is always mildly to moderately degraded within several hours of local noon by E-region blanketing of low angle long distance F2 propagation. 20 meter propagation crossing the auroral ovals and polar regions is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. 20 meter propagation beyond 2200 km in the low latitude northern hemisphere is likely to be mildly degraded during midday hours through at least October due to E-region blanketing of low angle F2 propagation. 17 and 15 meter propagation crossing the auroral ovals and polar regions is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. 17 and 15 meter long path propagation from North America to southeast and east Asia from about 1100Z to 1400Z is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. 12 and 10 meter propagation crossing the auroral ovals and polar regions is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. 12 and 10 meter long path propagation from North America to southeast and east Asia from about 1100Z to 1400Z is likely to be mostly normal through Sunday. There is a chance of above-the-MUF 6 meter F2 propagation over Africa from the more easterly US states to the Indian Ocean, equatorial and southern Africa (e.g., 3B8. 3B9, 7Q, D2, FR, V5, ZD7, ZD9 and ZS) from about 1400-1700Z during early and late November. Trans-equatorial F2 propagation (TEP) is likely from the southern tier of U.S. states to South America from about 2000-0200Z or later. There is a slight chance of above-the-MUF oblique-TEP F2 propagation from the southern tier of U.S. states to the south Pacific (e.g., 3D2, 5W, E5, FK, FO, VK4, VP6 and ZL) from about 1900-0300Z. There is a chance that more northerly U.S. stations may couple into TEP and oblique-TEP via brief intervals of above-the-MUF mid-latitude F2 propagation. There is a chance of TEP propagation from about 2000-0200Z during the initial phase of strong to severe geomagnetic storms then degrading several hours after initial enhancement. See K6MIO?s excellent article on 6 meter TEP, oblique-TEP, TEP-related and mid-latitude sporadic-E linking to TEP beginning on page 9 at: http://www.oh3ac.fi/QEX-2016-11.pdf Sustained southward orientation (-Bz) of the north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) plays a crucial *but unpredictable* role in triggering *all* geomagnetic storms. Brief minor to moderate geomagnetic storms may be gradually triggered when the IMF is sustained in a southward orientation (-Bz) with IMF field strength of about 5 nanoteslas or more for at least a few hours coincident with the influence of a geoeffective coronal hole high speed stream or CME. More frequent, longer duration, minor to severe geomagnetic storms may be triggered suddenly and unpredictably when the IMF is sustained in a southward orientation (-Bz) with IMF field strength of about 5 nanoteslas or more for a period of several hours or more coincident with the influence of a geoeffective CME and solar wind speed of about 500 km/second or more. Mid-latitude northern hemisphere sunrise is 40 minutes later and sunset is 58 minutes earlier than it was on September 22nd. Sunrise is about two hours earlier and sunset is about two hours later at the altitude of the refracting F2 region. Sunrise is about one hour earlier, and sunset is about one hour later at the altitude of the daytime absorbing D region. See K6MIO?s excellent article on 6 meter TEP, oblique-TEP, TEP-related and mid-latitude sporadic-E linking to TEP beginning on page 9 at: http://www.oh3ac.fi/QEX-2016-11.pdf Sustained southward orientation (-Bz) of the north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) plays a crucial but unpredictable role in triggering all geomagnetic storms. The year is quickly winding down, just under 55 days left in 2024 we still have a few big events on the calendar. This month we have the *BVARC Elections*, with various board positions up for a vote. We hope you will join us November 14th for the November General Meeting, where we will hold the elections AND have another great chilli supper (see details below). Another reminder that despite the exhaustion our hometown and the nation have had with hurricanes, we are STILL in hurricane season until the end of this month. The current path of hurricane Rafael is projected to miss us, but things can change and there may still be rough weather regardless. So do keep those batteries charged and stay on the alert. This month for Brews with BVARC we'll be heading to a brewery on the northside of Houston; one we've never been to before called Walking Stick Brewing Company. They look great, and our members have given us positive reviews (thanks Matt). Hope to see you there, or at one of our many other club gatherings this month. Please review our November calendar below. As always, check out our website BVARC.org for updates, and for information on our weekly in-person events, nets, and other resources. The November Newsletter *has* been posted on the BVARC.org website LINK HERE . Don't forget about our social media as well! We have a Facebook Page , a Discord Server , and YouTube channel for the club. Add the BVARC Calendar to your calendar app (by clicking the link here ), all events for the next 30 days should be on that calendar as well as others as we confirm their dates. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> *BVARC Calendar for November 2024:* *BVARC VE Test Session* *Saturday November 9th at 10:30am* You can sign up now on our website (BVARC.org ) to take an FCC license exam to get your ham radio license or upgrade to General or Extra. *Where:* Bayland Community Center 6400 Bissonnet St Houston, TX 77074 *BVARC Board of Directors Meeting* *Sunday November 10th at 5:00pm* The BVARC BoD is currently meeting on the Sunday before the Second Thursday of the month at 5pm (with few exceptions). The BVARC BoD is here to serve you, so please attend and let your voice be heard. *Where:* On Zoom: LINK HERE ! *Brews with BVARC* *Tuesday November 12th at 6:30pm* This November we're heading to a new (for us) brewery called Walking Stick Brewing Company in Houston. Their motto is "Texas beer with Rocky Mountain roots". This brewery is located just north of the Heights in Houston. As I often say on air, "we usually stay till they close", so don't worry about getting there at 6:30pm if traffic will be more favorable for you to get there at 8pm. Call us on 146.52MHz FM Simplex to let us know when you're close and we can direct you to our table. As far as their brews they have pilsners, saisons, porters, IPAs, and more. I'm especially looking forward to trying their *Mountain Berry Saison*. They *do fill growlers* so bring one if you want to fill up (I always keep one in my car in case I go by a great brewery and want to take some home LOL). They have food on site served by their own "Little Twiggy's" which sells bagel sandwiches if you want a bite to eat while there. Please come on out if you can! It's always a fun event. *Where:* Walking Stick Brewing Co. 957 Wakefield Dr. Houston, TX 77018 *BVARC General Meeting **ELECTIONS*** *Thursday November 14th at 7:00pm* It's election time for BVARC! That's right folks, this month our club's general meeting is for our club elections! We have many board positions that will be voted on this month, specifically: Vice President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, 2 Year at Large (B), and 1 Year at Large/Past President. Don't forget that doors open at 7:00pm, and the meeting starts at 7:30pm.There will be chilli supper prepared by our wonderful BVARC Food Team (please send your RSVP to Scott KD5FBA at gmail.com or Mike n5vcx at att.net.). We hope to see you all there. A few important things to know. - Park access is $7.00 unless you have a park pass. More info on: tpwd.texas.gov - We will provide at least 4 HF radios so the only thing you need to bring is yourself, something to drink, and snack on. - You are welcomed to bring your own equipment to use, ask questions about, or to share with others. - You can use your own call sign if you decide to get on the radio. - Technician class licensees ARE WELCOME! You can operate within your designated band, however if you want access to all HF bands please see Anthony (W5LIC) or Kori (WX5KR) to use a different call sign. - Of course, you do not have to operate the radios, you can come out for a fun time with your fellow hams. - You can ask a park ranger how to find us, or reach out to us on 146.520MHz FM simplex while in the vicinity of the park. - This is a family friendly event. I'm especially looking forward to trying their Mountain Berry Saison. They do fill growlers so bring one if you want to fill up. They have food on site served by their own "Little Twiggy's" which sells bagel sandwiches if you want a bite to eat while there. Please come on out if you can! It's always a fun event. *Where:* Walking Stick Brewing Co. 957 Wakefield Dr. Houston, TX 77018 Hope to see you there! 73, Kori Rahman, WX5KR Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club Vice-President and Club Call Sign KK5W Trustee Cell: (770) 298 8516 Kori113 at gmail.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Make sure you come out to vote in the elections and enjoy some great chili prepared by the great BVARC food team. We need to have at least 35 members present so we can have a quorum for the elections. Just to remind everyone of the positions that are up for the elections: Vice President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, Two-year (B) At Large director and One-year at large director. Chuck Hale, the election coordinator will present the slate of people that are running for office at the beginning of the meeting. Anyone that would like to nominate someone can let Chuck know at that time. Below is a schedule of the meeting. It may change depending on the number of candidates that are running.? 7:00 pm? ? Chili will be served7:30 pm? ? Meeting will start with a very short announcement time. Then candidates will be announced and if they wish they can do a short three minute presentation on why they are running for office.?8:00 pm? ? Voting will start. Paper ballots will be available but if candidates are running unopposed, a simple vote of showing of hands will be done instead. If there are more than once person running for office, then the paper ballots will be used for that position. Poxies can be used and need to be done in the following manner:? - A general proxy gives the proxy holder the leverage to vote their own conscience. - A specific proxy must vote the wishes of the proxy. - The third or hybrid format is a general proxy, but it allows the proxy to give special directions to the proxy holder. Voting should be completed by 8:30 to 8:45, if done by paper ballot, and the winners announced at that time.? The times will vary some do to chili being served, the presentations, the voting and the counting. Any e-mail with my signature that you receive asking for money, gift cards or cash is not from me. The only time that it might be real is if I ask you for a first class round-trip to Australia. Until then, the e-mails are nothing but a scam.? Also, I also my signature should always have my cell phone number in it. If not, I did not send it.? So, if you feel really generous, I will gladly accept a round-trip ticket to Australia anytime (just a quick check on 1st class round trip for late January and the tickets are about $30K!).? The bands for full and seems like there was almost never a lack of mults, but often a lack of space to call CQ. I spent more time hunting mults this time and think it shows. I'm very happy with my overall score, I've never made almost 2.5 million before! However, this contest was also a little bittersweet: I replaced my T2X rotator last Sunday with a used one and wouldn't you know it, it failed on me! It will not turn most of the time now...maybe there was something defective with the unit I put in, or I ran it too hard. Impossible to say. Very disappointed.
