However, My 80meter RF affects the unit. My To Do List has adding few turns of the control wiring between the attic/outdoor unit on a larger ferrite donut. The "Shop" has a LARGE new window AC unit. The RF from the full sized 80 meter vertical affects it Turns window AC on in middle of winter, dark outside... Immediate action: turn off the power to 220V window unit and open 120Vac breaker to wiring nearest the 80 meter vertical. Long term: relocate or remove that vertical. Recently installed three new mini-splits including one in the ham shack. Some RF hash noticed. Each one different size. two from Amazon, one from Walmart. My To Do List is to install a few turns of the control wiring between the outdoor/indoor unit on a large ferrite donut These babies do make "hash". It's not bad but if you're working for RFI quiet location, you'll need to add some ferrite donuts and I do notice the noise on 50Mhz - it's distinctly different than power line 60hz buzz. Good Luck... I have a new one here it's about 5to10khz wide and moves in and out of FT8 window at 50.313 Generally strongest when the yagi is pointing toward clear field! Odd.... DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 400 AM CDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Beryl was located near latitude 25.3 North, longitude 94.6 West. Beryl is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion should continue through today. A turn toward the north-northwest is expected tonight, with a turn toward the north on Monday. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl is expected to make landfall on the Texas coast Monday morning. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is expected, and Beryl is forecast to become a hurricane again later today or tonight before it reaches the Texas coast. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 995 mb (29.39 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- Key messages for Beryl can be found in the Tropical Cyclone Discussion under AWIPS header MIATCDAT2, WMO header WTNT42 KNHC, and on the NHC website at hurricanes.gov/text/MIATCDAT2.shtml. WIND: Hurricane conditions are expected in the hurricane warning area by early Monday. Winds are first expected to reach tropical storm strength by late today, making outdoor preparations difficult or dangerous. Hurricane conditions are possible in the hurricane watch areas by early Monday, with tropical storm conditions beginning by tonight. Tropical storm conditions are expected in the tropical storm warning areas in Texas and northeastern Mexico by tonight. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area in Texas by tonight. STORM SURGE: The combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide... Mesquite Bay, TX to San Luis Pass, TX...4-6 ft Matagorda Bay...4-6 ft San Luis Pass, TX to High Island, TX...3-5 ft N Entrance Padre Island NS, TX to Mesquite Bay, TX...3-5 ft Corpus Christi Bay...3-5 ft Galveston Bay...3-5 ft Mouth of the Rio Grande, TX to N Entrance Padre Island NS, TX...2-4 ft High Island, TX to Sabine Pass, TX...2-4 ft Sabine Pass, TX to Cameron, LA...1-3 ft The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast near and to the right of the center, where the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves. Surge-related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle, and can vary greatly over short distances. For information specific to your area, please see products issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office. For a complete depiction of areas at risk of storm surge inundation, please see the National Weather Service Peak Storm Surge Graphic, available at hurricanes.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?peakSurge. RAINFALL: Heavy rainfall of 5 to 10 inches with localized amounts of 15 inches is expected across portions of the middle and upper Texas Gulf Coast and eastern Texas beginning today through Monday night. This rainfall will produce areas of flash and urban flooding, some of which may be locally considerable. Minor to isolated moderate river flooding is also expected. For a complete depiction of forecast rainfall and flash flooding associated with Tropical Storm Beryl, please see the National Weather Service Storm Total Rainfall Graphic, available at hurricanes.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?rainqpf and the Flash Flood Risk graphic at hurricanes.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?ero TORNADOES: A tornado threat will likely develop this evening into tonight for portions of the middle and upper Texas coast. SURF: Swells generated by Beryl are expected to affect eastern Mexico and much of the Gulf Coast of the U.S. during the next few days. These swells are expected to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office. So........ Many of you in the club have been asking about helping provide communications for support for Hurricane Beryl relief. Here is you chance to provide that support whether you are in ARES, RACES, or no group what-so-ever. As you can see by Lee's e-mail, you can even use GMRS to help provide support.? Lee needs between 16 to 40 hams to work the 8 to 20 Points of Distribution (PODs). The PODs are used to pass out food, water, clothing and other necessities to families that were affected by Hurricane Beryl. I have worked the PODs in the past and it is a great feeling helping people that have lost a part of their lives due to a storm.? If you are interested and have the required equipment, please give Lee a call 346-246-8180 or send him an e-mail at leemanpa at me.com.? Two of the supplies are the RCA video studio regulated solid state supplies, 250 or so volts. I have the supply for what looks like a 500 or so transmitter, screen supply as well as plate, looks to be solid state, don't remember where I picked it up. I have a GE, I think, PA, probably 500 watts with built in power supply and blower. I think it is for what is known as VHF low band, 30 to 50mHz. I am sure it would punch a hole in six meters. There are some homemade supplies. Caution, all of these are for the serious RF builder, not plug and play. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Yesterday something new started happening: Running WSJT-X v2.6.1 and a K4D. Win 10 on an old computer. Yesterday I started getting 'delays' or 'hangs' in the movement of the timing bar which also extends to transmit timing. During the hang, WSJT is also non-responsive to clicking the mouse on any function, tab or command. Here is the timing scenario: RCV: Always hangs at 12 sec. After several seconds the progress bar jumps to usually 1 or 2 in the XMIT mode where it keys the radio but then hangs again. Even though the radio is keyed is does not transmit. It will then jump to somewhere between 5 and 8 and start transmitting. The progress bar then goes all the way to 14 or so and exits transmit mode. That starts the cycle over again. It is fairly consistent in timing. Very hard to make QSOs this way! I tried: - Uninstalling and reinstalling the program - Turning off all other non-essential programs - Rebooting the computer - Upgraded to v2.7.1: same thing. Then uninstall and back to v2.6.1 - As mentioned before, using the mouse also does not work when the program hangs. Other programs are unaffected, i.e. the mouse works just fine, no hesitation. I have checked disk space, which is no issue. When checking task manager, I see the CPU usage go up and I get "Not responding" on WSJT every time it hangs until after a few seconds: No changes have been made by me (that I'm aware of) that would affect WSJT and again it is the only program affected. Any ideas? What other information would you like for me to provide? TIA, 73, Allen R. This sounds like a W-10 update issue. Have you updated W-10 on that old computer lately??? I so maybe that' s problem, i.e. some incompatibility? with the WSJT-X software?? BTW, there are some simple Register hacks to make that old computer W-11 compatible as is. So maybe changing to W-11 might help or just rolling back the W-10 release your using now. 73, Gary K5AMH On 7/20/2024 12:26 PM, Allen Brier via BVARC wrote: > > All you WSJT-X gurus out there, I have a problem:? Meetings are 2 times per year, lasting about 1 to ? hours covering the old, new and upcoming activity. Dinner at Kelly?s in Pearland is the warm-up social in advance of the meeting. Dues are $20 for regular and $40 for voting members with funds used primarily for equipment and insurance. The HAMS club is basically a repeater operations organization, that finds, installs, and maintains repeaters in the Houston metro area. The 145.17 repeater maintained by HAMS as well as all other repeaters with the KA5QDG call on the ham side. The footprint of the various repeater covers a wide area including Galveston, Katy, Kingwood, Winnie and Beaumont, some of which are linked but most are standalone. HAMS maintains GMRS and digipeaters for APRS, Winlink and other modes. We are working our way into DMR and other digital modes as the equipment and opportunities arise. The HAMS repeaters support general HAM activity, public service, emergency, and event support. (ie. Red Cross, ARES, TranStar, Hospital network, Marathon, Wings over Houston Air Show, MS-150, Bike around the Bay and others) HAMS also provides technical support and installation for other groups? repeaters since the pool of non-commercial, experienced climbers and technicians is limited. Equipment comes from donations, commercial liquidation and direct purchase, mostly from hamfests. Repeater locations include commercial buildings, water towers, hospitals, fire stations, EOCs and others secured through longstanding relationships that the organization maintains and the professionalism and good reputation of the people performing the work. HAMS is always looking for new repeater sites, tower climbers and ground crew so if you are interested in doing this kind of activity, come to the meeting and we can get you on the crew. See you there. https://www.qsl.net/hams/ http://www.twometerhams.org Mark Landress WB5ANN, VP Houston Amateur Mobile Society. Put this Thursday night, July 25th at 7:00 p.m. on your calendar. We had a slight drop in attendance at the last couple meetings so let's see if we can get the attendance back up. All HAM operators are welcome along with anyone you may know interested in becoming a HAM. The summer is when we normally collect dues. Due to the rough weather we've had this spring, the club has had to replace a few repeaters and antennas. It is with these dues that we are able to continue maintaining the the network of repeaters we have. The meeting will be held at the Pearland Public Library located at 3522 Liberty Drive, Pearland Tx. You will probably NOT hear the meeting notice on the 145.17 repeater. The computer used for this voice recording is down so make sure to mark your calendar. If interested, a lot of us meet at Kelley's Restaurant located at 2933 East Broadway St. (FM 518) about 5 p.m. for dinner before the meeting. Hope to see everyone there! Michael E. WB5ANN at ARRL.NET From: Michael Cunningham [mailto:ki5fbb at yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2024 3:00 PM Subject: HAMS 2024 Summer Meeting 2nd notice Good evening, The date has been set for the H.A.M.S. summer meeting. Michael E. DX engineering now owns butternut and all the parts are there. >> ?Work 9 popular bands; 80 thru 6 meters with a single, highly efficient vertical radiator only 26 ft. tall! The HF9v is designed with large diameter tubing for the coils that enhances overall performance, The bandwidth is very narrow on 80 meters which is to be expected given the 26 ft tall radiator. I did work JA's on 80 meters from the east coast which for a simple vertical is quite a good QSO?? says a review. Ive upgraded my generator game since Beryl (my first rodeo) and so to recoup some cost, Im selling my original generator. Its only been run 48-50 hours and I've changed the oil and drained the gas from the tank and carb so its ready for storage (or for use). Dual Fuel - Gasoline or LP Propane 4750W Surge | 3800W Continuous It's a 224cc engine and the book says it gets 11 hours on gas and 7 hours on propane. During Beryl, I ran my large "smart" frig, a deep freeze, and various cell phone chargers and HT chargers, and lights and I got up to 20 hours out of a 20# tank of propane. Never ran gas through it other than to test crank it. It's got a standard household 20A 120VAC NEMA L5-20 receptacle, a 30A 120/240VAC L14-30R twist lock, and a 12VDC cigarette lighter plug. I paid $550 for it and the cover, plus $20 for a spare fuel selector switch, which I will include. I'm asking $450.00. The only reason I'm selling it is because I got a larger one. I had no issues with it other than my own ignorance (cannot crank on gasoline if there is a propane tank connected because there is an electronic switch that blocks the fuel). I'm offering it here (to my ham friends) before I reach out to the broader audience on social media.
