[BVARC] name that antenna?

Hey rick… depending on the angle of his down facing ¼ waves, he almost sounds like a discone antenna. Because a discone has a 1/4wave vertical, a “disc” that is slightly less than a 1/4wave iirc, and a number of downward facing 1/4wave radials that form a cone… but they have to be a certain angle.
It doesn’t sound like marc has the horizontal radial “disc” … I like experimental antenna stuff so I am interested to hear what his pattern is and how it operates in comparison to other verticals.

Marc, I use WSPR (generally on 20M) to determine what I can hear on different types of antennas. Until recently, I would typically run random end feds with an autotuner.. and in apartment/townhome situations in the recent past, I have gotten very creative on where I can hide my wire with very interesting results. Its fun to experiment in the hobby. That’s the best way to learn.

Marc,

XLNT, but now.......Define "work" Matched for low SWR, RL , Z, etc. or works as in makes contacts, etc. Works compared to what other antenna, if you have one?

it is fed at the joint with coax. seems to work on both 20m and 10m maybe 40m but did not test it.

I'll vote for that.

so i made a homebrew antenna, it has a 17ft telescoping vertical with 4 20m hamsticks at 135 degrees down. I ran it up a mast about 20ft off the ground and it seems to work relatively well compared to the 10 or so other homebrew antennas that I have hoisted. not sure what this configuration is called so when asked I just say homebrew vertical. does it have a name?
