Hey Scott,
Working on Hamfest, and also starting to think about our Januaryawards banquet, we have not had either in the last two years.
Normally we sell banquet tickets on the bvarc.org website
and on the houstonhamfest.org we sell admission ticketsand numbered tables where we let the vendor chooseand pay for tables of their choice right on the website.
for the banquet I usually just place some paypal buttons, a button for one person or a button for two people, and if we have a choice, we might have beef or fish or chickenbuttons.. if they want to know for sure how many fishes, chickens or beef folks want.. I normally just do this with paypal buttons.
In the past couple of years I have noticed buying tickets onlinenow use QR codes, or phone scanning or printout the pdf, and are a lot more automated and slick looking web things.
Are there any ( and I will be digging into this today) slick plugins to automate some of the things we will doing?
Hamfest, is a little more complex:
1) we do online admissions,(simple paypal sale, but we have to verify at the ticket booth beforewe give him a wrist band (admission), we do notmail out actual tickets)...
2) raffle ticket sales from the website, again we have to verifypayment and have x amount of tickets ready for this customer at thehamfest ticket window..
3) table sales, we will have roughly 200 tables, normally we create a table map, (JPG with the table layout and numbered) so folks can choose the tables they want, put them in a paypal cart and pay for them.Which takes those particular tables off the market (marks them red for taken)
I have been using SQL to create a table list database, and treating eachtable number, or block of tables as a unique item.. for instance when table number 56 is sold, it marks it sold in the database so it is not able to besold again. The database gives us the ability to have one or any numberof tables in a block and mark the price for each unique item.. So any paypalpayment will come in with table numbers on the payticket..
its the time of year I have to start worrying about setting up the infrastructurefor the banquet as well as hamfest and thought you might have someideas or wanted to help.. and maybe there are some new wordpress pluginsthat might makes these things easier..
