Guest writer Joe Fitter, K7JOE, faculty sponsor of the amateur radio club at Indiana University, describes how that club, along with the Bloomington High School South Amateur Radio Club and the Southern Indiana Amateur Radio Association, teamed up for the event. They are hoping that other groups will take a similar approach to Field Day.<br><br>Their Field Day event showcased modern technologies like SDR and AREDN/mesh, but also showed people how they can build radio equipment. The “Ugly Antenna/Cheap Charlie Antenna Contest” demonstrated that amateur radio equipment can be inexpensive and still work well.
